The bearing to the right is a two (magnet) row intermediate rotor bearing of the homopolar electrodynamic type
This type of bearing is the optimum solution when extra high load and performance is needed,
By adding extra magnet rows the characteristics can be changed towards better load capacity and stiffness.Adding an extra third row to bearing on the picture double the load capacity and stiffness. Adding a fourth magnet would provide yet another doubling of load- and stiffness characteristics.
As described in the movie on the front page the bearing repelling forces are increasing with increased displacement.
The stiffness on the other hand remains constant and is thus independent of the displacement. This gives the bearing yet another benefit over traditional bearing since it enables a simlified rotordynamic calculation/simulation.
